Wintun Glacier Hike

Today was a field trip day. Eric our wilderness ranger and myself went over to the east side of the mountain to check out the Wintun Glacier and the newly created mud flow that started from the upper snowfield.
Check out the channel of this mud flow. Water can be very powerful.
Eric pointing out the Upper Wintun Glacier. Lower Wintun Glacier
In this picture you can see the waterfalls from the melting waters of the Upper Wintun Glacier. These waterfalls have never really been officially named and doesn't always show itself. With the very dry conditions we are having this season on the mountain, this waterwall is flowing.
These waterfalls are sometimes called the Wintun Falls and the Upper Ash Creek Falls.

Prospect Peak, Lassen and Whiskeytown, Redding

This Labor Day weekend I decided to head over to Lassen National Park on the east side- Butte Lake Area. I took a hike up to the summit of East Prospect Peak. It was a great afternoon hike. A bit breezy on top. View looking north east. See Mt. Shasta way out in the distance.
Technology now a days. I can take a picture of myself with the 10 second delay. Not too bad.
View looking south from Prospect Peak. This area is known as the Fantastic Lava Beds, Cinder Cone and Snag Lake.
View of Cinder Cone from Prospect Peak.
Early Monday Morning Sunrise of Lassen Peak.
Whiskytown Lake located west of Redding.
Whiskytown National Park and Recreation Area is full of gold rush history.
Crystal Creek Falls. One of 4 waterfalls in the Whiskytown National Park and Recreation Area.
Another great weekend. I'm amazed everytime I go to the Redding area, the new things I find. Whiskeytown National Park and Recreation Area a few miles west of Redding, is a hidden jewel definitely worth more exploring.
