Clear Creek Climb East Side of Mt. Shasta
A group of us got together and had a great time. We started Saturday morning at the trailhead. We hiked up to our base camp at 8,500'.

This snowfield is at 13,000'.We were post holing up to our thighs in soft snow. Some of us continued to the summit with winds of 50 m.p.h.
The feast at base camp.
Getting closer to the top.

what time of day did you start the climb? do you think this route makes sense on july 27? there seems so little snow, where was the post holing occurring, on the watkins or wintun glaciers or on the snowfield on the approach to the summit?
sorry to ask so many questions. we have scheduled climbing that weekend and the lack of snow has certainly changed things.
I would recommend still planning your trip. There are no glaciers on this route. It is a long steep hike on a broad back ridge. I'd still recommend bringing an ice axe and crampons for the just incase scenario. i.e. getting off route, etc...Most people do this climb in 2 days. Hike in to bascamp at 8600' and start the climb around 1-2 a.m. Basecamp is the only location to get water. Postholing was occuring at the snowfield right below the summit plateau. A good idea if time permits is to stop by the Mt. Shasta Ranger Station and check out the power point. Ask for Robin
