Black Butte Sunday Afternoon Hike

My friend Jude and I decided to check out Black Butte for a nice afternoon hike. The last 1/2 mile to the trail head we approached a pretty large tree crossing the road. We parked and walked up to the trail head. We encountered this lizard. A sure sign of summer weather in the near future. The trail had a little bit of tree debris but clear for the most part. On the lower slopes that is. As soon as we got to the switch back, the upper north side of the trail, the weather changed. It got windy, much cooler and many snow drifts. We carefully crossed a few snowfields covering the trail until we got to one section that was snow covered for along distance. We decided to turn back. We found a nice spot to take in the views and just enjoy being on Black Butte. Once known as Muir's Peak named after the famous naturalist John Muir.

The last picture is of Mt. Eddy, the highest peak 9,025' in the Klamath Mountain Range.
